Episode 32: The Story of Red Team Thinking

Season #2

In this episode of The Thinking Leader Bryce Hoffman talks to James Burtt, executive producer of The Thinking Leader Podcast.

Bryce explains what Red Team Thinking is and how he became aware of it. The core principles of Red Team Thinking are to use critical thinking to create plans with resilience, diversity of thought and enable distributed decision making. It is a way for leaders to know what they don’t know.

Bryce was alerted to the idea of contrarian thinking by the movie World War Z and a concept in it, “the 10th Man Theory”. After 6 months of knocking on doors and sending emails he got into the Red Team Leading Course at the Pentagon, making him the first civilian that is military certified in Red Team Thinking.

In this episode you will hear:

  • How Bryce discovered Red Team Thinking
  • What are the principles of Red Team Thinking
  • Bryce's process of writing the book “Red Teaming”
  • Why organizations benefit from implementing Red Team Thinking
